Poppin' in for a peek

Damn!

I truly tried to get off my duff and begin posting again but once again found myself in the TwilightZone. (not @ rideyourpony though)

Through some travels to exotic lands and ones closer to home we have managed to both maintain a sense of order and get out of a few other ruts. I'll try to stay a little more active here with postings if I can.

The ears are always on though and there has been exceptional sounds out there.

So lets get on with the show!!

I'm Sure You Know Where Your Children Are Tonight

My two grandchildren (15 and 14) clued the ol' man about this issue this morning. Kidnapping, rape, murder, and torture of children in Uganda and other nearby African countries.

The situation is not new but the methods and technology that are being used for this awareness campaign utilizes tools that the younger generation can utilize and act on. It might seem to some like a big giant "sad story of the week" but I think it should be looked upon as a new avenue to have voices heard. Remember, if the politicians can use technology to get us to vote for them, we have the ability to turn that technology to let them know how the people feel when we see atrocities like this.

Please watch this video, stop a moment and think about it, and share it with someone you love. I was totally unaware this morning. Those that I love opened my eyes along with my heart.

Remember, It Never Hurts To Help

Today, September 9th was the birthday of one of the nicest people I have ever met on the internet or anywhere else for that matter. A true friend of the blogger community, surf music addicts, and guitar fanciers, my friend Randy, or as most of you know him Eek! the Cat, lost his long battle with illness on July 10th. I only found this out last week by a friend who had checked in to Randy's Facebook page and saw the notice. I'm still a little stunned over this. Strange, you might say, for someone who had never met the man in person but Randy had a way of really touching you with his open and kind manner. I know he had the same impact on many others out there as he always tried to keep upbeat no matter how bad he felt. I visited his Facebook page myself last week and saw how much he meant to his wife, daughters, brothers and friends. I know I will always feel the loss.

He was a remarkable man, my friend Randy.

Like Y2K and the N1H1 virus scares this too was for naught.

While I receive many lovely gifts from my friends in Santiago, Chile, the expected tsunami did not appear. Most folks in Huntington Beach have never noticed the Tsunami Evacuation Route signs that were posted after the Indo quake and tsuname in 2004. Always nice to know what direction to start running like a madman when the water gets high!

We have finally heard from friends in Santiago and now know they are safe. Things are getting back to normal with services being restored in the last few days. Still, it is a very sad situation as the death toll continues to rise each day.

I Rock Cleveland is shut down by Google's Blogger service

I Rock Cleveland, a popular music blog run by Bill Lipold of Parma, has been shut down by Google's Blogger division. 

Lipold received an e-mail Tuesday from Blogger, notifying him that I Rock Cleveland was removed for violating Blogger's terms of service. 

"It's difficult to get across . . . that there's a difference between someone working with the blessings of the artists and the [record] labels and someone who leaks Bruce Springsteen's entire discography," Lipold, 35, told The Plain Dealer on Wednesday. 

"They don't see the distinction between someone who's adding value and someone who's facilitating piracy," he said. "That goes to the root of this whole mess." 

I Rock Cleveland showcased music not only by local artists, but national and international acts, too. 

In recent months, Blogger notified Lipold of several complaints from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, a recording-industry trade group, alleging that some MP3 files on I Rock Cleveland infringed on copyright. 

Lipold said he had permission from the artists, publicists or record companies involved to share the music files in question, including songs by the indie bands Nadja and Spindrift. 

On Wednesday, Lipold e-mailed documentation of the blessings he had obtained to Blogger, which is owned by Mountain View, Calif.-based Google. The free service allows users to create and maintain their own blogs. 

Blogger also pulled the plug on several other MP3 blogs this week. 

In an item posted today on its own blog under the heading “A quick note about music blog removals,” Blogger said it does not publicly discuss individual users or accounts.

The entry also stated: “When we receive multiple DMCA [Digital Millennium Copyright Act] complaints about the same blog, and have no indication that the offending content is being used in an authorized manner, we will remove the blog.”

I Rock Cleveland averaged 1,500 unique visitors daily, according to Lipold, who is a database programmer. He started his blog in 2006. 

"I don't make money on it -- I've never run advertising," Lipold said. 

"I do it because of the good feedback I get from the people who read it. I get compliments all the time. People say I'm making a difference by keeping them up-to-date about the Cleveland music scene." 

Lipold plans to relaunch I Rock Cleveland on a new server this weekend.

One of the coolest guys on TV when I was a little nipper. (pre-James Bond)

LOS ANGELES – Gene Barry, who played the well-dressed man of action in the television series "Bat Masterson," "Burke's Law" and "The Name of the Game," has died at age 90 of unknown causes, his son said Thursday.

Gene Barry essentially played the same character in all three series, which spanned the 1950s to the 1970s. Always fashionably dressed, the tall, handsome actor with the commanding voice dominated his scenes as he bested the bad guys in each show.

In the first of the three, the Western "Bat Masterson," he was a frontier dandy who rarely resorted to gunplay, choosing instead to beat his rivals senseless with a gold-handled cane.

Another of his TV roles was the always cool Burke's Law. 

This is the first episode of the first season. Series ran from 1961 to 1966.
